Rumour mills A Buzz: Around 6.30pm on May 2, hundreds of guests, among them Hollywood actors and supermodels, will ascend the steps of the Metropolitan Museum in New York, pausing before the paparazzi. The annual Costume Institute Gala Ball, chaired by US Vogue editor Anna Wintour raises funds for the museum’s fashion department; last year’s event made $9 million. This time, the extravaganza will have a poignant but perhaps more powerful impact: it is dedicated to the British designer Alexander McQueen who is honoured in a posthumous exhibition of his work, mounted less than 15 months after he killed himself, at the age of 40.
