British High Street retailer New Look has teamed up with the internationally renowned London College of Fashion (LCF) in a bid to find MA Fashion Footwear students to create a collection of six shoes/boots/sandals that will launch in New Look stores March 2011 as the ‘London College of Fashion Collection for New Look.’

New Look’s Barbara Horspool (Group Design Director), Malcolm Collins, (Director for Footwear and Accessories) Fiona McGuire, (Senior Footwear Designer), and Helen Bleazard (Head of Buying – Footwear and Accessories) will be joined on the judging panel by LCF’s Professor Roy Peach, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies. Also sitting on the panel of judges and providing a critical designer eye is inspirational British womenswear designer Giles Deacon and famed British footwear designer Jonathan Kelsey.

Following the project presentation to twelve MA Fashion Footwear students in March, eight students (below) have now been selected from the initial 2D stage to go through to the 3D design stage. The second stage saw the students present their designs and inspirations to the judging panel, the 3D stage will see the students designs come into prototype form and an overall winner will be selected and announced in December 2010.

The winner will play an integral role in the craftsmanship and production process of the collection and gain the opportunity to travel overseas to see their design produced by one of New Look’s suppliers.

John Brunswick –  1 shoe design
Claire Milligan and Ruth Jones (joint collaboration) – 1 shoe design
Kim Kwang (Guang Jin) – 3 shoe designs
Chang Seok Ko – 3 shoe designs
Chan Jung Kim – 2 shoe designs
Johnny Chin Meng Ket – 1 shoe design
Adriana Lurascu – 1 shoe design

We are thrilled to be working with London College of Fashion on this project and see it as a great opportunity to fuse our expertise in the field of footwear and our international resources with the innovation, creativity, and enthusiasm displayed by the students from this highly respected MA course. We see this initiative as more than just a design competition, but a mutual partnership, where the students receive ongoing mentoring and first hand insight into the  commercial side of the fashion industry; in turn the students inject a fresh creative approach to the design process.  New Look strongly believes that it is important to invest in and support emerging talent.” – Barbara Horspool – Group Design Director
